Why Myofascial Release Works

Targeted treatment that gets to the source of your pain, not just the symptoms.

Reaches Deep Restrictions

Acupuncture needles release fascial adhesions and trigger points at a depth that hands-on massage and manual therapy cannot reach, producing faster and more lasting relief.

🎯

Targets the Source of Pain

We identify and treat the specific muscles and fascial structures causing your pain, stiffness, and restricted movement. Not a general relaxation treatment.

🔄

Treats the Whole Pattern

We combine myofascial release with traditional acupuncture points and electroacupuncture (as needed) to calm your nervous system, reduce inflammation, and amplify pain relief.

What Patients Say About Myofascial Release

Real reviews from patients who found lasting relief.

★★★★★
"I went to Morningside Acupuncture because I had some pretty bad lower back pain. Teddy used a combination of trigger point acupuncture, dry needling, and myofascial release techniques that made a significant difference. He explained everything super clearly beforehand and took a lot of care during the treatment. My back feels remarkably better and would definitely recommend acupuncture and Morningside to anyone who has similar pain."

"Underwent acupuncture treatment which included myofascial release and dry needling for intractable trapezius and paraspinal pain, or pain at my shoulder and neck. I received outstanding care from the Morningside team. The treatments were very helpful, with some relief immediately after the sessions and additional improvement over a period of time. Can't say enough about the team at Morningside Acupuncture."

Common Questions

How is your myofascial release different from what a massage therapist or PT does?

Most myofascial release is performed using manual pressure with the hands. We use acupuncture needles and dry needling to reach deep fascial restrictions and trigger points directly, at a depth that manual techniques cannot access. This produces faster and more targeted results, especially for chronic or stubborn pain.

Does myofascial release with acupuncture hurt?

Most patients feel minimal discomfort. You may feel a brief twitch response when a trigger point is released, which is a sign the tight muscle fibers are letting go. Many patients find the overall treatment deeply relaxing. Mild soreness in treated areas for 24–72 hours afterward is normal.

How many sessions will I need?

Many patients notice improvement within 1–3 sessions. Acute issues often respond quickly. Chronic or longstanding pain patterns may take 5–10+ sessions. We'll give you an honest assessment at your first visit and won't recommend more treatment than you need.

Can I exercise after a session?

We recommend training or working out before your session on the same day. Afterwards, take the rest of the day to recover. Exercise is generally fine the next day, but we'll give you specific guidance based on your condition and how you respond to treatment.

What does myofascial release treat that massage doesn't?

Massage primarily works on the superficial muscle layers. Myofascial release with acupuncture and dry needling targets the deeper fascial restrictions, trigger points, and adhesions that are often the root cause of chronic pain. If you've had massage that provides temporary relief but the pain keeps coming back, the deeper fascial layer may be the issue.

Do I need a referral?

No referral needed. Just book online or call us. We're out-of-network but provide superbills for insurance reimbursement, and many patients recover 50–80% of their costs. We accept credit card, cash, check, Apple Pay, and HSA/FSA.
